The Footexperts Fellowship is aimed at orthopaedic surgeons, traumatologists and sports medicine physicians who want to subspecialise in foot and ankle surgery. It is open to surgeons from any country worldwide, including the UK, USA, India, Australia, Latin America and Africa.

What surgical techniques are covered in the Footexperts Fellowship?

The programme covers the full spectrum of foot and ankle surgery: hallux valgus with MIS and DROMO technique, ankle arthroscopy, chronic ankle instability reconstruction, osteochondral lesions of the talus, total ankle replacement, adult flat foot reconstruction, diabetic foot surgery, complex ankle fractures, musculoskeletal ultrasound, nanoscopy and tendoscopy, and regenerative medicine with PRP.

What is the format of the Footexperts Foot and Ankle Fellowship?

The Footexperts Fellowship combines weekly online theoretical sessions with direct in-person surgical training in Barcelona at Clinica Creu Blanca and Hospital Universitari de Mataro. Fellows participate as observers, surgical assistants and supervised surgeons depending on their experience level.

Who directs the Footexperts Foot and Ankle Fellowship?

The fellowship is directed by Dr. Manel Ballester, Head of Traumatology at Hospital Universitari de Mataro and Coordinator of the Foot and Ankle Unit at Clinica Creu Blanca Barcelona, and Dr. Gustavo Lucar, Coordinator of the Foot and Ankle Unit at Hospital de Mataro. Both directors are members of EFAS and SEMCPT.

What qualification is awarded on completion of the fellowship?

Graduates receive an accredited Fellowship title in Foot and Ankle Surgery from Footexperts, endorsed by EFAS (European Foot and Ankle Society) and SEMCPT (Spanish Society of Medicine and Surgery of the Foot and Ankle).

Can international surgeons from outside Spain apply for the fellowship?

Yes. The Footexperts Fellowship has trained surgeons from India, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Peru, Colombia, the UK and many other countries. The online phase is accessible from anywhere in the world. The in-person phase in Barcelona can be scheduled in concentrated blocks to accommodate international travel.
